Going Up


A common misconception is that President Bill Clinton lowered our national debt. 

Clinton took our deficits and turned them into a surplus ($69B in '98, $125B in '99, $236B in '00, $128B in '01). However, during his presidency our national debt still increased from $4.4T in '93 to $5.8T in '01. Why? Dave Manuel breaks down the numbers here.
